19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with former mentor Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after that period of that year.

Success also means the Russian has won twenty-one victories at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

The player's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a close final set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
